You will have delivered full stack architecture solutions at scale, ideally in the Azure/AWS stack, combined with a recent strong focus on AI/ML.

Where you fit in
You will work as Digital Pathfinder for Artificial Intelligence (AI)/ Machine Learning (ML). Shell is heavenly investing in making AI/ML work for their customers, their operations, and to delivering on its strategy of Powering Progress. We use AI/ML for lower carbon energy solutions for our customers, designing and implementing the energy system of the future, and for reducing the footprint of our operations. Since the world of AI/ML is moving so fast, we need to be able to scout new opportunities fast, test them out and see how they will fit in our overall digital landscape. And it covers the entirety of Shell: from exploration and wells management thru chemicals, refineries, customer solutions, hydrogen, power and renewable generation and storage. Our desire is to have a modern landscape that makes it easy for our users to create, train and deploy their own specific AI/ML model without having to think about data management.

The IT Innovation Team has just been revamped. The team and space are still shaping up.

What’s the role?
First of all, you will be our frontrunner in scouting new AI/ML solutions and technologies and see if those are valuable for Shell. You will have a large network of internal and external stakeholders, including academia and research companies. You will be their driver for testing out such new tech, and ensure you find the most valuable ones
Secondly, we want you to ensure that all AI/ML solutions Shell creates, trains and deploys are within the right architectures and guidelines. You set the architecture strategy for AI ML and ensure all stakeholders are aligned. Since AI/ML is an ecosystem play, you are fluent in setting up and grow those relationships
Thirdly, you are a great communicator. Since you are the one setting out strategies, it is part of the job to enthuse others
And finally, you are a master of the end2end full stacks that ensure we have SaaS and PaaS AI/ML environments. You understand the layers, the data journeys, AIMLOps, and the technical architecture we need to scale out our AI/ML solutions fast and seamless
And of course, passion. You will also require the passion to drive IT related business activity towards value-based outcomes built on a foundation of a well-integrated landscape. You will have full ownership of the AI ML innovative data and architecture space and setting the pace for it. You are the key focal point for business and IT to bring clarity in this fast-evolving AI/ML world.

Furthermore, your accountabilities include:
Identify and develop Shell business opportunities to apply innovative AI/ML solutions, from scouting to deployment
Work with Business and IT teams to pilot and scale-out (when successful) these innovative AI/ML solutions across Shell. The Lead Architect AI/ML takes a hands-on approach to delivering these pilots and initiate the related scale-out
Build and maintain a strong external network to identify new (applied) innovation opportunities in AI/ML
Work with other Shell teams to build and maintain the AI/ML innovation funnel
Work with the IT AI/ML foundational portfolio teams to ensure the Shell AI/ML foundational services are fit for purpose and future-proof

What we need from you
We’re keen to hear from digital innovation professionals who has substantial experience in AI/ML, architecture and innovation with a passion for energy. Beyond that, we’d want to hear from individuals who have the following:
Experience in delivering full stack architecture solutions at scale, ideally in the Azure/AWS stack, combined with a recent strong focus on AI/ML
Extensive and proven experience in managing and delivering innovative AI/ML / Data Science solutions in multinational environments. Deep domain and IT technical and hands-on skills in applied AI/ML
Creative thinker and visionary, with a track record in defining and deploying innovative solutions to deliver business value and change in the defined space. Used to challenge the status quo and work with it
Used to work in squads and chapters, in a scaled Agile fashion
Strong stakeholder and comms skills, with an emphasis on building a shared vision, working through resistance and building external partnerships
Experience in large energy companies or alike and its stakeholders
Skill to leverage digital technologies to reimagine new ways of engaging business models: new processes, new customer and data journeys, new ecosystems and partners
Evaluate and bring forward new technologies to drive business growth and improve customer experiences
