We’re looking for an Automation Software Engineer to join a start-up utilising robotics & AI to revolutionise the process of pest insect control. Their technology and solution offering presents a chemical-free method of controlling pest insects in a cost-effective way. With commercial rollout due in the UK and US this year, they’re scaling up rapidly, meaning it’s a great time to join. The role is based on-site in West Reading due to the requirement of interacting with their embedded systems.

What you’ll be doing
The wider engineering department consists of c20 people which includes mechatronics engineers, automation technicians and multi-functional graduates. This role reports to the VP of Engineering and will eventually play a lead role as they look to establish a middle management structure. You’ll support the enhancement and scalability of their micro-production systems, combining your coding, embedded software and AI skills to take them to the next phase of growth. Their pilot product has been through trials and is now due to be rolled out commercially across the UK and several states in the US. The next phase includes scaling the impact of their automated pest control solution from thousands to millions of insects per week.

What experience you’ll need

  • Degree-educated in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering or similar.
  • Well-versed in Python/C coding onto embedded systems.
  • Previous use of Microcontrollers / Single Board Computers (e.g. Raspberry Pi).
  • Knowledge or interest in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based software solutions (AWS or similar).
  • Awareness of AI accelerators such as PyTorch, Tensorflow or Linux.
  • Professional or personal experience with power automated systems (mechatronics animatronics etc.).
  • Skilled in mentoring juniors with an appetite for technical leadership.
