Role Purpose:
To promote and provide educational support for new nurses and interns to enable them to meet the mission of the Nursing Division through the development and provision of programs aimed at addressing orientation needs of staff. This orientation comprises pre-assessment, competency based training and evaluation. In addition, the nurse educator develops programs aimed at providing needs based in- services and staff development, life support training and mock codes. The nurse educator provides a culture of learning and achievement that is consistent with adult learning philosophy utilizing multiple learning strategies and modalities

Roles and Responsibilities:
Originates and analyzes identified nursing staff educational needs and assessments.
Provides evidence-based nursing education for staff
Develops a strategic plan for the Nursing Education Department incorporating the identified long and short-term goals of the division of Nursing Services and clinics
Facilitates educational programs consistent with adult learning principles with goals and objectives appropriate to the multi-cultural nursing staff.
Communicates educational recommendations to Nurse Education Manager
Utilizes multiple teaching modalities effectively. Demonstrates proficiency in educational design including development of needs assessment, educational objectives, content, outline, teaching methods, evaluations strategies, effective designation of appropriate physical facilities to reflect cross cultural learning styles and in the use of resources.
Designs, implements and assesses train the trainer educational opportunities. Reviews and analyzes the impact of the programs and amends as indicated by analysis.
Develops and implements a competency- based nursing orientation program which embraces all theoretical, clinical, technical and equipment based orientation needs emerging learning needs generated by changes in best practice recommendations, technological advances, research developments, accreditation needs and as required by the mission of the DSFH.
Maintains concise and accurate records of the competency status of all staff and schedules annual recertification as needed.
Establishes and maintains an environment that promotes and supports professional practice and the philosophy of life-long learning.
Advocates for the needs of the patient and the nursing staff through the endorsement of the patient’s rights policies and the hospital code of conduct
Demonstrates excellence in skills of negotiation, critical thinking and team building.
Fosters collaborative relations and mutual understanding.
Communicates effectively. Maintains open positive, harmonious and professional relationships at all times.
Participates in performance improvement activities as requested by the Nurse Manager
Assists the Nurse Manager in the effective running of Nursing Services through willing acceptance of any other responsibilities.
Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.
Current licensure essential.
Must possess valid basic life support (BLS) certification
ACLS, PALS and NRP provider/ instructor desirable

Minimum Experience and Knowledge:
Minimum 5+ years GCC healthcare experience in a similar role.
Previous experience in a teaching preferred.
