Hiring for a Firefighter Driver Operator – EMT in United States
Under general supervision, responds to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, traffic accidents, rescue and other emergency calls to protect life and property.

Essential Responsibilities:
Drives, operates, and maintains fire apparatus, equipment, and other specialized vehicles.
Operates fire pumpers and related apparatus.
Participates in training, drill, and independent studies.
Participates in fire prevention inspections and public education activities.
Participates in the maintenance of Fire Department equipment and facilities.
Performs various staff support assignments and performs related work as assigned.
Participates in various support assignments including but not limited to the maintenance of inventory records, scheduled inspections of department equipment, hydrant inspections and maintenance and fire flow testing.
Preparation and maintenance of department maps and pre-fire plans, alarm center operation and the preparation of specifications for new equipment and apparatus.
Ordering, managing inventory, and issuance of safety equipment.
Participates in the training of fire personnel in the safe and proper operation and maintenance of all Fire Department apparatus and vehicles.

Must meet below National Fire Protection Act (NFPA) essential job tasks:
Performing fire-fighting tasks (e.g., hose line operations, extensive crawling, lifting, and carrying heavy objects, ventilating roofs or walls using power or hand tools, forcible entry, etc.), rescue operations, and other emergency response actions under stressful conditions while wearing personal protective ensembles and SCBA, including working in extremely hot or cold environments for prolonged time periods.
Wearing an SCBA, which includes a demand valve-type, positive-pressure face piece or HEPA filter masks, which requires the ability to tolerate increased respiratory workloads.
Exposure to toxic fumes, irritants, particulates, biological (infectious), and non-biological hazards, and/or heated gases, despite the use of personal protective ensembles and SCBA.
Depending on the local jurisdiction, climbing six or more flights of stairs while wearing fire protective ensemble weighing at least 50 lbs. (22.6 kg) or more and carrying equipment/tools weighing an additional 20 to 40 lbs. (9 to 18 kg).
Wearing fire protective ensemble that is encapsulating and insulated, which will result in significant fluid loss that frequently progresses to clinical dehydration and can elevate core temperature to levels exceeding 102.2 degrees F.
Searching, finding, and rescue-dragging or carrying victims ranging from newborns up to adults weighing over 200 lbs. (90 kg) to safety despite hazardous conditions and low visibility.
Advancing water-filled hose lines up to 2 ½ inches (65 mm) in diameter from fire apparatus to occupancy [approximately 150 feet (50 m)], which can involve negotiating multiple flights of stairs, ladders, and other obstacles.
Climbing ladders, operating from heights, walking, or crawling in the dark along narrow and uneven surfaces, and operating in proximity to electrical power lines and/or other hazards.
Unpredictable emergency requirements for prolonged periods of extreme physical exertion without benefit of warm-up, scheduled rest periods, meals, access to medication(s), or hydration.
Operating fire apparatus or other vehicles in an emergency mode with emergency lights and sirens.
Critical, time-sensitive, complex problem solving during physical exertion in stressful, hazardous environments, including hot, dark, tightly enclosed spaces, that is further aggravated by fatigue, flashing lights, sirens, and other distractions.
Ability to communicate (give and comprehend verbal orders) while wearing personal protective ensembles and SCBA under conditions of high background noise, poor visibility, and drenching from hose lines and/or fixed protections systems (sprinklers).
Functioning as an integral component of a team, where sudden incapacitation of a member can result in mission failure or in risk of injury or death to civilians or other team members.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent. Required to have a minimum of four years’ experience in crash and structural firefighting. Must possess and hold certifications for the following Department of Defense (DoD) International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) training:
– Firefighter II,
– Airport Firefighter
– Driver/Operator ARFF
– Driver/Operator Pumper
– Hazardous Materials Operations.

Conditions of employment at one year:
– Driver/Operator MWS
– Hazardous Materials Tech
– TeleComm I/II,
– Confined Space

Must Have current National Registry Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) or Higher. (Will accept State of Nevada). Must meet NFPA medical requirements and be able to pass medical examinations annually and physical fitness and agility tests semi-annually. Must meet eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain the required government Top Secret security clearance and access to work locations. Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities. Must be able to spend up to 6 nights away from home. Must be able to work on weekends and holidays. Must have a valid NV driver’s license with Endorsement F, If member lives in other state, must have equivalent or higher level driver’s license (CDL). U.S. Citizenship is required. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, and lifting up to 100 pounds. This position will be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, gasses. Possess communication skills including maintaining ability to provide life-saving information under high stress, emergency conditions. Exposure will also include extreme environmental elements such as heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and sun etc. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, crawling, dragging, carrying, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Must be able to perform job tasks at any place on the Aerial Ladder from minimal extension to full extension. Must be able to perform assigned duties while wearing a self-contained-breathing-apparatus (SCBA), with minimal loss of effectiveness and efficiency. Must be able to navigate tight turns, stairs, and enclosed spaces while wearing firefighting personal protective equipment to include SCBA.

At times, work will be done in a station or an office environment maintaining vehicles, equipment and firefighting apparatus.
