Purpose of Role

Food Technology Assistant Key Responsibilities
Ensure that all workshop and practical areas, equipment, and materials are kept in a clean, operable and safe manner and ready for use by staff and pupils.
Prepare, provide and return ingredients, equipment and materials as necessary to enable staff and pupils to function effectively. This must be done prior to the commencement of a lesson.
To advise teachers on safety matters or potential problems with equipment.
Set up as necessary hardware required by teachers for class demonstration or pupil use.
Support lessons and work alongside teachers during designing and making activities to aid pupil progress.
Assist staff in the storage and organisation of resources, and preparation of class materials and displays in a timely, safe and effective way.
Prepare materials and/or resource packs for teachers’ and pupils’ design-based projects.
Experience using CAD/CAM and basic coding is not essential but is desirable.
Be of a practical nature and be comfortable in a school workshop, studio and kitchen environment
Carrying out an annual stock take and maintaining a record of stock held.
Ordering/shopping for ingredients, materials and consumables when necessary.
Placing orders for equipment and checking deliveries. Also corresponding with suppliers.
On occasions, assisting with preparation for special events which may involve additional hours outside the usual working day.

Key Essentials:
Proven organizational skills.
An aptitude for practical work and a willingness to learn new skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
An ability to work with and relate to young people.
Basic IT skills (NB Training will be provided for school-specific systems)

Experience
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
